For the last 19 years,
Planned
Parenthood has partnered with local churches and other
non-profit agencies who work with young people to deliver
facts, fun and food to 400-500 children. The students are
involved in educational activities for 3 hours from
objectives that focus on important subjects relevant to
young teens and pre-teens: puberty, dating, relationships,
avoiding peer pressure, postponing sexual activity,
preventing sex abuse, teen pregnancy and sexually
transmitted infections, including HIV.
Trained health
educators teach the classes which are divided by age and
gender…5th grade boys, 5th grade girls, 6th grade girls, 6th
grade boys…..10 classrooms with different objectives and
activities. |

The morning wouldn’t be complete without
the more than 100 adult volunteers who arrive at 7:30 to
welcome everyone. They serve as escorts into the building,
classroom helpers, registration takers, t-shirt
distributors, food deliverers, and all-around friendly faces
who make the morning both safe and fun.
